Downloading Older Versions of Xcode

Apple makes it easy to download the latest version of Xcode. But older versions of Xcode are harder to find. I’ve read many questions on Mac programming forums from people who have trouble finding older versions of Xcode on Apple’s site. Take the following steps to find older versions of Xcode:

  1. Go to the Apple Developer Connection site.
  2. If you do not have an ADC membership, click the Join Now button.
  3. Login to ADC with your Apple ID and password.
  4. Click the Downloads link.
  5. Click the Developer Tools link on the right side of the page.

Now you will find every version of Xcode Apple has released. Those of you running Leopard will want to download Xcode 3.1.4. Those of you running Tiger will want Xcode 2.5. Those of you running Panther will want Xcode 1.5.

Aargh, 3.1.4 for Leopard seems to be unavailable now.

  9. Ox says:

Sorry yes, I found it now. Getting to the correct page is amazingly hard. My problem was somehow getting on to developer.apple.com instead of connect.apple.com. Many thanks for the help!

I know this is years old now, but thank you! I was really getting frustrated with the lack of leopard support as I couldn’t figure out how to get an older version.

Will be nice to have a look at the SDK, and mess around without having to drop some serious money at this point in time!

Thank you so much! This has been giving me a total headache since I haven’t yet broken my 2008 MacBook and am still running OS X 10.5… Everyone in my C++ class says it’s no problem to download Xcode, but they’ve all got uppity new laptops with uppity new operating systems… bah! (Also, every support forum I’ve found has been from years ago and is completely outdated—except this one!)

Just wanted to confirm that this DOES still work! Thanks for the straightforward help. I really appreciate it. 🙂

hmm, the link under step 1. appears to be broken. I get this: “The server at developer.apple.com can’t be found, because the DNS lookup failed.”
will it come back up later? or is there another place I can go?

  13. sylvan says:

I went back a couple of hours later and it was working again. Thanks. I got it now and everything is working great.

  14. Confused says:

    Link doesn’t work!!!!!!!!!

  15. Alex says:

If you go to https://developer.apple.com/downloads/ and search for xcode 3.1.4 it will be the only dmg that shows up.
